Build Review of LEGO Editions Football (43019)

LEGO Editions Football (43019) or, outside of the UK, LEGO Editions Soccer Ball (43019). Whichever name you prefer, it's a near-scale replica of a standard regulation Size 5 match ball.

This 1,498-piece set is for ages 10+ and should be medium difficulty for younger builders, and pretty easy for adults.

LEGO Football (43019) is a one-booklet build with 11 bags. The set launched on March 1st 2026, the same day as LEGO Editions FIFA World Cup Trophy (43020).

The dimensions of the finished LEGO Football are VERY close to a real-life Size 5 ball, with a diameter just 1cm smaller than the real thing - the extra height is due to the base.

While there are no LEGO Minifigures in this set, you do get micro-scale LEGO footballers to place in the celebration scene inside the ball, which we'll look at in a moment.

What's the Build Process Like?

The build starts with assembling the animated micro-stadium scene which ends up inside the finished football. You then set this aside until the very end of the build.

It's pretty common for LEGO to do this - make the first part of the build one of the last to be fixed into place - but it means the most interesting part of the set is finished by the end of bag 2.

Next up is the base, which takes you to the end of bag 3. After that you're mostly just assembling the internal framework of the ball and adding the curved exterior panels to complete the ball itself.

Our Impressions of the Build

As a concept, LEGO Football (43019) is great. They could have gone with a basic ball and it would have been fine. The set we actually got, with the micro-stadium inside and the animated 'fireworks' feature, has so much more to offer.

The build process weirdly didn't pack the punch we were hoping for. It just didn't feel very exciting - maybe this is one of those sets that's better to look at as part of your LEGO bedroom display than it is to actually build.

What are the Problem Points?

We found the building instructions a bit clunky in places, and the order of assembly felt weird. The ball doesn't seem to 'grow' in a very organic way, so you don't get that swell of satisfaction as you get closer to the end.

With the LEGO Football launching the same day as the LEGO World Cup Trophy (43020) and consecutive set numbers, we initially thought we were getting a LEGO World Cup replica ball based on the tournament's TRIONDA design.

Although we like the blue and pink colour scheme, it's a shame there isn't an actual 2026 World Cup LEGO Football with the real-life tournament's red, green and blue colourway. The micro-figure teams inside could have been made red and white, since those are by far the most common kit colours at this year's World Cup.

Three ways we think this set could have been better:

1. World Cup 2026 'TRIONDA' red, green and blue colour scheme
2. Build the base first and work up from there - more satisfying
3. Modular stadium scene that can be displayed separately

Between those simple changes to the assembly order, we think this would be a more satisfying build, with that feeling of really 'building' the ball from the ground up.

How to Display It

Make no mistake - the finished LEGO Football looks fabulous and has a 'striking' aesthetic (no pun intended...) that works well as part of a LEGO bookshelf display.

Final Thoughts

As a LEGO bedroom display set, the LEGO Football (43019) does look great, and any football fan should love it. The spherical shape with its curved plates is surprisingly smooth, and we like that it's not a completely solid ball, so you get a sense of depth when you look at it and peek through the little gaps.

The stadium scene is super cute and the fireworks animation is done well. It's a shame it's not a slide-out module, as we'd love to be able to display the micro-stadium outside of the ball too.

Overall, the assembly process felt a bit mechanical, especially for that 10+ age range, and lacked the little easter eggs and hidden details that normally make LEGO builds so much fun. It's still a very nice set, we just didn't get that usual sense of satisfaction from putting it together.
