Have You Seen The Four New LEGO Star Wars Sets?
FEEL THE FORCE OF FOUR
It’s probably safe to say that most people were already aware these sets were on the horizon, but they have now been added to the official LEGO website. While a couple are available to preorder now, the other two will be available on August 1st, 2024. Awesome August!
DROIDS, DESERT and DUELS
It’s been a while since we have had a LEGO rendition of the Desert Skiff. 2017 gave us LEGO 75174 Desert Skiff Escape, 2012 produced LEGO 9496 Desert Skiff, but the very first was the LEGO 7104 Desert Skiff in 2000.
Cheerfully, the design has come a long way since 2000, but there are not massive differences between the latter two sets, just some colour variations on the Skiff and the Sarlaac.
Plus, the included LEGO minifigures were slightly different. LEGO 9496 included Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, Lando Calrissian in disguise, and Kithaba, but LEGO 75174 included Han Solo, Chewbacca, Boba Fett, and a Skiff Guard (Rintel Aren).
LEGO 75396 Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit
£69.99 - coming soon on 1st August 2024
LEGO 75396 Desert Skiff and Sarlacc Pit is a long overdue rehaul of previous releases with similar names. However, the Desert Skiff itself bears a solid resemblance to the Desert Skiff of LEGO 75174. They seem to use mostly the same pieces in the same colours. The rudders at the back have changed for the better (nice use of hats!).
The Skiff maintains the extending platform and the collapsing railing (watch out, Han), but it is now supplied with translucent pieces to create a hovering aesthetic when on display (LEGO has done this previously, but the height has been increased in this latest release).
The main difference is the Sarlaac Pit, which now feels like a vast, creepy, tentacled, ravenous man/alien/droid-eating plant that bursts forth from a pit. The previous releases were more like a slightly peckish Venus flytrap in a dusty hole. LEGO has used the same pieces as before for the mouth of the Sarlaac, which makes sense as it can happily encompass an unsuspecting LEGO minifigure. Some levers also allow the tentacles to invoke some action in the scene.
Six LEGO minifigures, including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian in disguise, Boba Fett, and a 25th anniversary Nien Numb, are included with LEGO 75396 Desert Skiff and Sarlacc Pit.
LEGO 75385 Ahsoka Tano’s Duel on Peridea
£49.99 - coming soon on 1 August 2024
LEGO 75385 provides 382 pieces to recreate the epic battle from the Season 1 finale of Ahsoka. The Great Mothers’ Fortress has been replicated fantastically in the LEGO 75385 Star Wars set. The shape of the pillars is spot-on and the mystic markings are excellent. The LEGO battleground, when built, provides three moving turntable areas, allowing you to pose the included LEGO Minifigures in some epic battle positions.
A particular function also enables Ezra Bridges to execute his legendary leap from the platform to Thrawn’s Star Destroyer. The style of LEGO 75385 Ahsoka Tano’s Duel on Peridea is reminiscent of LEGO 75216 Snoke’s Throne Room released in 2018, and the less appreciated LEGO 75334 Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Vader from 2022. These previous releases also facilitate the rotating turntable aspects of the floor, providing epic fight poses.
LEGO Star Wars Ahsoka Tano’s Duel on Peridea includes five fantastic LEGO Minifigures with authentic accessories:
- Ahsoka Tano – Two White Lightsabers
- Grand Admiral Thrawn – Blaster
- Morgan Elsbeth – Blade of Talzin
- Ezra Bridger – Blue Lightsaber
- Night Trooper – Blaster
LEGO 75398 Star Wars C-3PO
£124.99 - pre-order this item today, it will ship from 1 August 2024
1,138 pieces to create the galaxy’s most uppity droid! This golden boy of the Star Wars rebel alliance has a fully moveable head, and his arms are poseable, allowing you to recreate many of C-3PO’s iconic poses, hands on hips, hand in air summoning assistance. There are so many options.
LEGO 75398 includes an information plaque that sports C-3PO’s information. Next to the plaque, there is a space for the LEGO Minifigure of C-3PO to fit, and a 25th Anniversary brick is supplied.
We think that LEGO 75398 C-3PO would look awesome standing next to LEGO 75379 Star Wars R2-D2 (sold separately) as C-3PO measures approx 38cm and R2-D2 is recorded as being 24cm tall, so they seem to be quite nicely in scale with each other.
LEGO 75398 Star Wars C-3PO could be posed in the condescending head-patting pose that has now become the most iconic image of these two droids. LEGO 75371 Star Wars Chewbacca could also join the party as he measures 46cm, so therefore, he would also be in scale. Let’s get this party started!
LEGO 75392 Star Wars Creative Play Droid Builder
£89.99 - pre-order this item today, it will ship from 1 August 2024
LEGO 75392 is a perfect set to purchase if you wish to build as a family, as each droid has its own instruction book. Plus, the extra accessories will make for an amusing time; who will give their droid the craziest brick-built accessories?
This latest 2024 Star Wars set enables us to build R2-D2, Chopper, QT-KT (also Known as Qutee), and R5-J2 (an astromech droid from the second Death Star). It’s cool that two lesser-known droids have been brought into the spotlight; we always need more droids for our displays.
We do wish that Chopper had a bit more of the recognisable C1-10P head shape that we all know and love, but that’s about the only thing that we would change; we imagine if he were to dress up in the cowboy hat, you would overlook his head shape.
We can also imagine the sounds that R2-D2 and Chop would omit if Luke or Hera attempted to dress them up! The heads and legs of the droids are all interchangeable with each other too.
75392 Creative Play Droid Builder also includes a Young Princess Leia LEGO Minifigure with her beloved L0-LA59 (Lola) droid as the 25th Anniversary figure. She stands on a printed 25th Anniversary plaque.
All the latest LEGO offers and promotions are on the official LEGO website.
