What is LEGO Pinball Machine (11374)?

LEGO Arcade Pinball Machine (11374) is a fully working brick-built LEGO pinball machine with a retro LEGO Space theme and an adorable mission to complete.

At the start of the game, the Space Baby Minifigure is drifting alone. But each time your pinball hits the asteroid target, the LEGO Minifigure Astronaut edges closer to the baby.

Bump the target enough times before you drain the ball, and the Minifigures will be reunited and ready for their journey home!

Is LEGO Pinball Machine playable?

Yes - LEGO Pinball Machine is fully functional, with a spring-powered ball launcher, working flippers, spinners and bumpers, a ball return slot and that interactive 'scoring' system as the astronauts inch closer together.

There's no points-based scoring in addition to the astronauts' mission. Instead, the points display is fixed at 11,374 - the LEGO Arcade Pinball Machine set number.

Months in development

The flippers alone took a month to develop, as the design master on this set revealed in an interview on the LEGO website.

Antica Bracanov said: "I spent probably around a month just exploring how to execute the flippers, testing different options and then figuring out the building flow for that section."

Hidden details

There are hidden details in the set that pay tribute to the humour of 1980s arcades, including a secret sticker that Antica said is her favourite easter egg in the build.

"My favourite one is the sticker on the side of the playfield that reads 'Thanks for looking here,' as a little nod to similar stickers placed in real pinball machines," she explained.

A familiar theme

Space is a traditional theme for pinball machines. Millennials will probably remember 3D Pinball Space Cadet for Windows 95, and LEGO Icons Arcade Pinball Machine (11374) has similar styling - plus that tie-in with the classic LEGO Space theme.

This led to the mission-based scoring system: "We ended up with an astronaut navigating through space to get to the baby astronaut, who drifted too far away while playing.

"This also gave us the opportunity to give a little treat to everyone who loves Classic Space and create the iconic Astronaut Minifigure in a new colour, together with the Baby Astronaut."
