A little bit of home

"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to."

- J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Bag End and The Shire are the iconic start and end point for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, as Frodo steps out the front door and follows his feet all the way to Mordor and Mount Doom.

LEGO LOTR The Shire (10354) is a faithful recreation of Bilbo's Hobbit Hole, complete with round windows and door, furnished interiors and a whole heap of book and movie-related Easter eggs.

The front gate has a "No Admittance - Except on party business" sign, there's a stage with a "Happy Birthday Bilbo Baggins" banner, Gandalf's horse and cart, and even a swooping dragon firework element.

Movie magic

Some of the genius in this gorgeous diorama is hidden away in interactive features, such as the burning letter that reveals The One Ring, or a turning dial to make Bilbo vanish.

A surefire fan favourite is also the book on Bilbo's writing table, which can be opened and closed to customise your display.

With nine LEGO Minifigures, you can add Bilbo, Frodo, Gandalf the Grey, Samwise, Merry, Pippin, barmaid Rosie, Farmer Proudfoot and Mrs Proudfoot to your scene - and make a strong start to your line-up of LEGO Lord of the Rings Minifigures characters.

What we think

There's so much detail that this set makes an excellent standalone Lord of the Rings LEGO diorama, or you can pair it with some of the sets below to build even more of Middle-earth.

LEGO Icons - The Lord of the Rings: The Shire (10354) is out now priced at £229.99, so decide what to do with the time that is given to you, and add this one to your collection!

A treacherous moment

This set captures the scene when Smeagol & Deagol discover The One Ring resting on the riverbed while fishing.

It has everything you need to recreate the pivotal moment, with views above and below the water level, a brick-built fishing boat, LEGO Minifigures of Smeagol & Deagol, fishing rod accessories and, of course, The One Ring element.

We loved assembling the layers of this LEGO LOTR GWP, starting with the riverbed, adding the cleverly suspended water level, and finally clicking into place the boat and tree.

It's a must-have for LEGO enthusiasts who are fans of Gollum, especially in his pre-Ring form as Smeagol with his best friend Deagol.
