Twelve Of The Best LEGO Movie Set Releases
SILVER BRICK BUILT SCREEN SETS

With five movies under their brick-built belt, LEGO has produced some awesome movie tie-in sets. The wacky ways of LEGO movies are mirrored perfectly in the multitude of sets that were released in conjunction with the movies.
In chronological order, the five LEGO movies (so far) are:
- The LEGO Movie – February 2014
- The LEGO Batman Movie – February 2017
- The LEGO Ninjago Movie – September 2017
- The LEGO Movie 2 – February 2019
- Piece by Piece – November 2024
There are well over a hundred sets that are related to this list of LEGO movies. This includes polybags, some of which were only ever available as promotional items, and a LOT of rare and retired products that have become sought-after collector's items.
Where It All Began
A little over ten years ago, LEGO introduced us to Emmet, the world's most loveable yet unlikely hero. Through his many misadventures, Emmet has become a household name, and we have all sung along to 'Everything is AWESOME!!!' at least once.
Having perused the epic list of releases related to the first LEGO movie, with great difficulty we picked three that we think are worthy of highlighting. As with all the other LEGO movies, we could've chosen many more!
LEGO 70810 MetalBeard's Sea Cow
Price: £169.99
Release date: March 1st 2014 (retired set)
Pieces: 2,741
Size: 58cm x 61cm x 19cm (H x L x W)
This steampunk-looking ship includes a ton of accessories. There are LEGO Minifigures of Emmet, Wyldstyle, Vitruvius and Benny, plus figures of Queasy Kitty and the pirate Captain MetalBeard himself.
What's not to love about this set? A pirate ship is always a great build and looks awesome in a LEGO display, and LEGO 70810 MetalBeard's Sea Cow is a BIG build, two feet long and nearly two feet tall.
On top of that, there are cannons and ammunition, pistols and swords, a treasure chest full of gold coins and jewels, a whole variety of tools and navigation equipment - and a cow with wings. No more needs to be said!
LEGO 70814 Emmet's Construct-o-Mech
Price: £49.99
Release date: June 1st 2014 (retired set)
Pieces: 709
Size: 36cm x 16cm x 34cm (H x L x W)
LEGO 70814 Emmet's Construct-o-Mech is an elite build of an elite suit, with a cockpit that opens to allow LEGO Minifigure Emmet to take control. Once he's strapped in, our unlikely hero has two wrecking balls, a gigantic rotating roller and a toothy excavator bucket hand at his disposal.
This awesome set comes with LEGO Minifigures of Emmet and two Skeletrons, a HIGHLY desirable Angry Kitty figure AND the Piece of Resistance, all of which ticks a lot of boxes if you're putting together a LEGO Movie diorama and want as many characters as possible.
LEGO 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
Price: £79.99
Release date: May 19th 2014 (retired set)
Pieces: 940
Size: 11cm x 51cm x 41cm (H x L x W)
I can build a spaceship - watch this! LEGO 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! is one of the greatest-named LEGO sets of all time and it fires on more cylinders than a real-life rocket ship.
There's the nostalgia for the 1980s LEGO Space era, the iconic inspiration behind Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! There's an opening cockpit, extendable wings, spring-loaded cannons and lasers, plus two detachable wing flyers, each with their own LEGO Minifigure cockpit.
Speaking of minifigures, this set comes with Robo Emmet and Robo Pilot, Space Wyldstyle and Benny (who's always in a spacesuit anyway...) and a very cute Astro Kitty figure. Spaceship! Spaceship! SPACESHIP!!!!
More Bricks, Alfred
Following on from his role in the 2014 LEGO Movie, everyone's favourite Caped Crusader got his own outing in 2017's LEGO Batman Movie. As massive fans of Batman, it was NOT easy to choose just a handful of sets, but we think you will agree that these are fantastic. Holy bricks, Batman!
LEGO 70906 The Joker Notorious Lowrider
Price: £54.99
Release date: January 1st 2017 (retired set)
Pieces: 433
Size: 7cm x 24cm x 8cm (H x L x W)
The designers really embraced the spirit of the movie when they made LEGO 70906 The Joker Notorious Lowrider. The result is a lot of fun, with bouncing rubber-band suspension, double spring-loaded shooters hidden in the trunk (activated via a button hidden behind the cockpit's stereo system) and a golden chicken hood ornament.
You get The Joker, Harley Quinn and Batgirl LEGO Minifigures, along with Batgirl's cape and Harley's roller skates, which can be equipped onto the minifigures. It's a very highly rated set among builders and a great display piece, either on its own or alongside our next pick...
LEGO 70911 The Penguin Arctic Roller
Price: £29.99
Release date: January 1st 2017 (retired set)
Pieces: 305
Size: 7cm x 22cm x 7cm (H x L x W)
There are a few good reasons to pair LEGO 70911 The Penguin Arctic Roller with The Joker's Notorious Lowrider. They're built to a similar scale, so you can display them together. The Penguin's Arctic Roller comes with Batman and The Penguin LEGO Minifigures, crucial to 'complete' a LEGO Batman diorama. And why build one vehicle, when you can build both?
The Arctic Roller has plenty of its own personality, with dual spring-loaded shooters activated by a button on the hood, a removable cockpit roof and opening trunk, a mini penguin escape pod, and accessories including a cape, utility belt and Batarang for Batman, and collar, top hat and umbrella for The Penguin.
LEGO 70922 The Joker Manor
Price: £249.99
Release date: December 1st 2017 (retired set)
Pieces: 3,444
Size: 55cm x 66cm x 27cm (H x W x D)
One of our all-time favourite LEGO Batman builds is LEGO 70922 The Joker Manor. It's another big one, 66cm wide and 55cm tall, and depicts the 'Jokerized' Wayne Manor as seen in the movie.
The interior includes... (deep breath...)
- kitchen with microwave, lobster and lemon slice
- living room with grand piano, fireplace and bust
- cinema room with a romantic DVD element
- music studio with guitar, mixing desk and speakers
- swimming pool room
Then there's a total of TEN LEGO Minifigures: Batman, Nightwing, The Joker, Harley Quinn, Alfred Pennyworth Classic Batsuit, Barbara Gordon, Disco Batman, Disco Robin, Disco Batgirl and Disco The Joker.
But it's the rollercoaster track that makes this set so eye-catching in any Batman or fairground diorama. The purple track wraps around the outside of The Joker Manor, and the rollercoaster train has seats for three LEGO Minifigures - so if you want, you can take poor old Alfred for a spin!
Also, a large set like the LEGO Joker Manor should be kept pristine, which is easy with iDisplayit's expertly crafted display case.
Ninjas Are Go
We love LEGO Ninjago. The characters are super cool, with their own unique Minifigures, powerful mechs, ninja temples and graceful soaring dragons. Everything about it is a win, including the fierce spinning battles of LEGO Ninjago Dragon Spinjitzu.
The 2017 LEGO Ninjago Movie came hot on the heels of the LEGO Batman Movie and was the first film in the franchise to be based on an original LEGO property. About 30 LEGO Ninjago sets and polybags were created to coincide with its release - and these are our top picks:
LEGO 70613 Garma Mecha Man
Price: £59.99
Release date: August 1st 2017 (retired set)
Pieces: 747
Size: 30cm x 14cm x 24cm (H x L x W)
Did we mention that we love mechs? Well, we do, and LEGO 70613 Garma Mecha Man is quite something. It has a nautical theme throughout the design, with a spring-loaded shark blaster with shark-shaped ammo, and a translucent blue fish tank with mini shark elements.
You get LEGO Minifigures of Lloyd, Pat, Garmadon and Great White, along with Lloyd's tasselled sword, Great White's fish spear, Garmadon's laser-style pointer and four katanas, and Pat's camera. With lots of cool angular details and posable arms, legs and head, Garma Mecha Man is a strong start to any LEGO Ninjago display.
Don't know how to display this set? Why not check out this affordable custom display case?
LEGO 70620 Ninjago City
Price: £259.99
Release date: September 1st 2017 (retired set)
Pieces: 4,867
Size: 63cm x 31cm x 42cm (H x W x D)
Arguably one of the greatest LEGO sets ever. 70620 Ninjago City is huge, a three-level vertical city connected by a sliding elevator. There's a fish market on the ground floor, a fashion store, a comic book store and crab restaurant on the second level, and a rooftop sushi bar along with Lloyd and Misako's apartment upstairs.
This set comes with a massive 16 LEGO Ninjago Minifigures, plus Sweep the maintenance robot. There's a rotating sushi conveyor belt, an ATM that dispenses banknote elements, and even a clever crab-cooking grill. And it is BEAUTIFUL. You won't want the build process to end, but once it does, you'll have a stunning set you can display proudly and always find new details to spot.
And if you already own this iconic set and want to keep it from dust build-up, check out iDisplayit's perfectly designed acrylic display case.
LEGO 70657 Ninjago City Docks
Price: £199.99
Release date: June 1st 2018 (retired set)
Pieces: 3,553
Size: 37cm x 38cm x 25cm (H x W x D)
LEGO 70657 Ninjago City Docks is the perfect companion piece, packing over 3,500 pieces in its own right. Together with LEGO 70620 Ninjago City, that's 8,420 pieces, making these some of the most highly detailed LEGO sets ever.
Ninjago City Docks assembles into a harbour scene with a working crane and fishing boat, plus two levels of interiors on dry land. There are another 13 LEGO Ninjago Minifigures and a baby figure, which means between the two sets, LEGO Ninjago City gives you over 30 characters to interact with.
We could talk for hours about these sets, individually and together. They're so incredibly intricate, with an amazing amount of thought put into how to make them interactive and encourage imaginative play. But even just to look at, they're some of the best ever, and combine to create a detailed diorama you'll never tire of looking at.
Spectacular Sequel
Five years after the original LEGO Movie was released, the second one hit movie theatres. Emmet was back in 2019's The LEGO Movie 2, but this time trying to rescue his kidnapped friends from the invading alien forces of the planet Duplo.
There are two sets linked to this movie that we really enjoy - proof that everything CAN still be awesome:
LEGO 70834 MetalBeard's Heavy Metal Motor Trike
Price: £54.99
Release date: January 1st 2019 (retired set)
Pieces: 461
Size: 17cm x 31cm x 19cm (H x L x W)
Yes, this is our second selection that features MetalBeard, but pirates have all the best toys! LEGO 70834 MetalBeard's Heavy Metal Motor Trike is a steampunk trike with a nautical theme, as you'd expect from the scurvy captain.
The huge front rubber wheel sets the sense of scale for this set, which includes a rotating turret with shooting cannons, a shark shooter with snapping jaws, and a crow's nest with flag. You want Minifigures? You've got them! There's an Apocalypse-borg Benny Minifigure, a Sweet Mayhem mini-doll figure, and a brick-built Star figure that can be used as Sweet Mayhem's glider.
LEGO 70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg!
Price: £279.99
Release date: February 1st 2019 (retired set)
Pieces: 3,178
Size: 52cm x 49cm x 33cm (H x W x D)
This stylish set speaks for itself. Over 3,000 pieces assemble to form a dilapidated neighbourhood built around the ruins of the Statue of Liberty. There's a whole host of interior rooms to play with, and a dozen LEGO Minifigures including Emmet, Batman, Harley Quinn, Green Lantern and a line-up of new faces from the movie.
A particular favourite of ours is the awesome tattoo studio, complete with a brick-built tattoo gun! While the sets we've mentioned so far have been retired for several years, you can still find them second-hand in all the usual places, including BrickLink and eBay.
But not ALL of the LEGO movie tie-in sets have been retired - there is one more to mention...
The Final Piece
The most recent 'LEGO movie' was 2024's Piece by Piece and you won't find Emmet or Batman in this one. Instead, it's a biopic of the Grammy-winning recording artist Pharrell Williams, who wanted an original way to tell his story.
A brick-built biopic (or should that be bio-brick??) is an excellent solution, and a good way for many of Pharrell's famous friends to voice their own LEGO Minifigure characters on-screen. That list includes people like Kendrick Lamar, Gwen Stefani, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Snoop Dogg and more - a real who's who of the early 2000s music industry.
LEGO 10391 Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams
Price: £94.99
Release date: Available now
Pieces: 966
Size: 49cm x 19cm x 20cm (H x W x D)
Insider points: 760
LEGO 10391 Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams is part of the LEGO Icons family and contains nearly a thousand pieces, which assemble to create a space shuttle shooting for the stars on a rainbow-coloured jet stream.
This set also contains a slightly nightmare-fuel 'abacus' of 49 LEGO Minifigure heads labelled 'My Phriends' and based on the fellow celebs who appear in the movie. Over 30 of them were created specifically for Over the Moon, so it's a fantastic way to add lots of potential to your minifigure family.
We also love the slight angle of the space shuttle, which was achieved using LEGO Technic triangles. This really gives the illusion that the shuttle has just burst through the cloud base en route to the stars above. Additionally, iDisplayit offers a crystal-clear display case for the set, ensuring that this stunning creation can be showcased beautifully.
When is the next LEGO Movie?
It's not clear when the next LEGO Movie will be released, or exactly what it will look like. After The LEGO Movie 2 failed to pull in the expected audience numbers, Warner Bros lost the rights to make future films. Universal negotiated a five-year deal, and Piece by Piece was their first project.
A further five Universal LEGO movies are thought to be in the works, but they're unlikely to feature Emmet and his friends because Warner Bros still own those characters. There's plenty of potential though: Universal Pictures owns iconic film franchises like Jurassic Park, Back to the Future and Despicable Me (yes, including Minions).
While it's a bit sad to think that Emmet, Wyldstyle, MetalBeard and even LEGO Batman might have had their day, we can't wait to see what a LEGO Movie set in the Universal universe will look like - not to mention the LEGO sets that are launched alongside it!
