We Built LEGO 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole - See What We Think
BLAST FROM THE PAST
The latest LEGO brick-built iconic vehicle rolled out on July 1, 2024. This is a nod to the most popular supercar of the 1980s, the Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole. The LEGO Icons replica is a 1,506-piece build that has been generally well received by many people, but the complaints do seem to be the same across the board... more on those later.
WHAT’S IN THE BOX?
LEGO 10337 comes in one of the new style boxes, now in two parts: lid and base. After cutting a larger amount of tape strips than usual we were in. Inside we were greeted with the following:
- 11 numbered paper bags
- 1 small plastic bag with wheels and frame
- Cardboard envelope containing the instruction manual
- 4 x loose wheels
THE BUILD PROCESS
Many Technic elements are included in the build process, but not as many Technic sub-builds as we expected. This is down to space-saving within the model. An elastic band controls the mechanism for opening the scissor doors on either side. These provide quite a smooth movement, but for the door to shut down without assistance is painfully slow.
The SNOT technique is used multiple times throughout the build as this is a highly effective way to attach small sub-builds within the larger body of the model.
LEGO Icons 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole uses NO stickers, and details are printed. This is a fantastic feature of the set, as it’s so nice not to have to fiddle about with little stickers that can become an eyesore if not enough care is taken with the application.
A Lamborghini logo is on the steering wheel, and 'Countach' and 'Lamborghini' tiles are above the printed license plate at the vehicle's rear. The license plate doesn't contain any easter eggs, as is often the way (this was requested by Lamborghini). There are no easter eggs or nods to people throughout this build.
The V12 engine is cleverly replicated using multiple claw pieces (16770) instead of the sausages used in the past. We believe that the claws are a better option. The LEGO Icons 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole has a working steering wheel, however, it doesn’t turn very much, and the front tyres almost catch on the wheel arches.
Several new pieces are used in LEGO 10337, some of which were specifically designed for this set. The new piece list is:
- 1x4 slope with 1x2 cutout, dark red and white (6505207/5654)
- 4x4x1 with bottom cutouts, white (not studs, flat top, ¼ arch) (6481567/5649)
- 4x20 with five holes, flat silver (6481570/5650)
The 1x4 slope was designed specifically for this set and has enabled the tail light shape to be replicated. The rear of the vehicle is cleverly designed; in fact, the whole design is a clever feat of engineering, as the Countach is a complicated shape.
The windshield is reused from the DeLorean but in trans-black this time around. A nice touch is that it's packaged in its own bag to avoid scratches.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The overall aesthetic of LEGO Icons 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole is excellent. They have managed to capture the iconic lines of this legendary vehicle. It is a good, sturdy build, with nothing about it feeling flimsy at all. The well-renowned colourway has been beautifully captured. It’s a shame that the interior can’t really be fully appreciated once the build is complete, though. The new rim pieces look fantastic; we can’t wait to see them used in other sets.
However, moving on from the good points, we do think that the price was maybe £20/£30 too high and wonder if this may put a lot of people off purchasing it. Also, we find it strange that the iconic flip-up headlamps were not created. They have included these before in the LEGO 10248 Creator Expert Ferrari F40, so the engineering is there. It’s a shame that such a poignant part of the silhouette was omitted.
We rate this build as follows:
8.5/10
