2023 Film Saga Release Calendar – February to June
WHAT FILMS ARE WE LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST THIS YEAR?
With any new year comes the fresh excitement and anticipation of what streaming platforms and the cinema hold in store for the latest releases.
After a much slower period of film production during the global pandemic, the film industry has been making up for lost time over the last few years. As a result, 2023 is shaping up to be another great year for classic sagas, sequels, reboots and reimaginings.
Join us as we countdown our most anticipated films for the first half of the year…
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania
17 February 2023
First up for the year is the third (stand-alone) Antman film superhero movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We looked at the first trailer for the film back in November’s blog, and we can’t wait to see our favourite subatomic heroes, Ant-Man and the Wasp, back in action this February.
2015’s Ant-man saw the first introduction of Paul Rudd’s quirky tiny superhero, which proved to be a fun origin story and a fan-favourite addition to the Marvel film franchise. 2018’s sequel film Ant-Man and The Wasp ended with Scott Lang, Hope van Dyne, and Hank Pym finally rescuing Janet van Dyne from the Quantum Realm, where she had remained trapped since the 1980s.
The latest film will introduce the classic Marvel comic-book villain Kang the Conqueror, who we suspect may go on to take over Thanos’ mantel as the over-arching villain for Phase 5.

Creed III
3 March 2023
Nothing beats sticking on some of the classic 80s Rocky films when you’re in the mood for motivation in the form of power rock, training montages and fist-punching ring-side drama.
The Creed series follows the life of Apollo Creed’s son, with a more contemporary sports film approach, still paying tribute to the themes of the original series. In this third instalment, Adonis Creed must face off against Damian, a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy who wants his shot at glory.

Scream VI
10 March 2023
The much-beloved slasher horror flick Scream first came out in 1997. Now, twenty-six years later, the franchise continues with a fourth offering. Original cast members such as Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette are all returning, along with Jenna Ortega, the breakout star from Netflix's brilliant Wednesday series.
The film picks up with Sidney Prescott’s return to the town of Woodsboro, the site of the Ghostface Killer’s spree. While promoting a self-help book written to help deal with the trauma of the events, she reconnects with old friends and the re-emergence of a long-gone villain.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
31 March 2023
This year has seen plenty of hype for Dungeons & Dragons, including a new LEGO IDEAS set, which we discussed in a recent blog.
March’s film release serves as a reboot of the original trilogy, which consisted of a theatrical film, made-for-TV, and direct-to-video instalment. Based on classic TTRPG campaigns, the film concerns a quirky group of adventurers who must embark on an epic quest to find a lost relic.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
May 5th 2023
The third instalment of the Marvel universe favourite is director James Gunn’s final outing with Star-lord and friends.
Still reeling from the loss of Gamora, Peter Quill must gather his allies to help defend a new alien haven set up after purchasing Knowhere from the Collector. The Guardians of the Galaxy films have always been popular among Marvel fans, and we’re equally excited to fly out with the team one last time.

Fast X
19 May 2023
Like or loath it, the Fast & Furious franchise shows no sign of putting its foot on the brake.
There is a lot of mystery surrounding this whopping tenth film release, with official plot details yet to be revealed. Fast and Furious 9 saw a Pontiac Fiero rocket car launched into space, leaving fans to speculate on what wild vehicular antics will be included in the latest instalment to try and top previous films. Perhaps a time-travelling DeLorean car? Oh, wait...
Tune into Super Bowl LVII on 12th February to catch a trailer spot for the new film.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
2 June 2023
This sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse returns to the shared animation multiverse known as the ‘Spider-Verse’. In his latest adventure, Miles Morales will set out on a new adventure with a new team of Spider-People known as the Spider-Force to fight against a new villain.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
9 June 2023
Hasbro’s Transformers toy line has seen six previous film saga releases. The latest offering is based on the Beast Wars storyline. Set in 1994, the film concerns a pair of human archaeologists who find themselves in the middle of a conflict with three factions of the Transformers race.
An exciting addition to the latest film is the return of Peter Cullen, who voiced the original Optimus Prime from the 1980s Transformers animated series.
The Flash
16 June 2023
This reboot of The Flash in cinema form is the thirteenth instalment in the sci-fi DC Extended Universe, promising a wild ride as the titular hero travels back in time to prevent his mother’s murder, resulting in unintended changes to the universe’s timeline. There's a lot riding on this film, which Warner Bros. hopes will re-set the DC Cinematic Universe and pave the way for future films.
The Flash is also due to feature in one of the prominent 30 second trailer spots at this year's Super Bowl LVII, so keep an eye out and make sure you tune in!
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
30 June 2023
We looked at the first trailer for this one in December’s blog.
It is debatable whether the classic adventure saga needed a fifth film. However, we’re happy to accompany Indy on one last whip-curling adventure to find out. The film also sees the return of veteran actor John Rhys-Davies, who is reprising the role of Sallah.
The official premise of the film reveals the story takes place in 1969, during the Space Race between the USA and Soviet Russia. With his goddaughter Helena at his side, Indiana Jones battles against ex-Nazi NASA members, discovering an artefact of tremendous power.
