Star Wars Ahsoka Premieres On 23rd August

Star Wars Ahsoka Premieres On 23rd August

The character of Ahsoka Tano was first introduced to the Star Wars universe in the 2008 Clone Wars animated movie as a brash 14-year-old Padawan apprentice to none other than Anakin Skywalker. As every Star Wars fan knows, Anakin would eventually fall to the dark side of the force and become the dreaded Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader.

The force-sensitive Togruta female went on to star (in animated form) in six out of seven seasons of The Clone Wars on TV. While the prequel films did receive mixed opinions, many fans agreed that the animated series redeemed them somewhat, offering more insight into Anakin’s time as a Jedi Knight.

Ahsoka was the perfect buffer for Anakin, tempering his rash outbursts with her own impetuousness. Eventually, the two formed a respectful bond, though Anakin continued to refer to her as ‘Snips’ due to her attitude, while in return, she teasingly referred to her master as ‘Skyguy’.

Once The Clone Wars series concluded, fans were eager for the new fan-favourite Ahsoka Tano to make their live-action debut. That eventually happened in the second series of The Mandalorian, with an older and wiser Ahsoka, played by Rosario Dawson. Rosario also reprised the role during The Book of Boba Fett, hinting at a larger storyline to come.

Rosario Dawson returns as Ahsoka.

What Is Star Wars Ahsoka, And When Does It Come Out?

Star Wars: Ahsoka is the latest Disney+ exclusive limited series developed by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, set to make its debut on the streaming platform on 23rd August 2023. Rosario Dawson will be reprising her role following a brief appearance in other shows. Check out the official trailer here!

The new show occurs somewhere between The Return of the Jedi and the sequel trilogy. This almost untapped time (in the new canon) covers the victorious Rebellion’s struggle to police the galaxy and restore the Galactic Republic. It is a time of mysterious threats and lawlessness – perfect for untold stories. As we’ve already seen with The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, there’s a lot of fun to be had with this period, with plenty of opportunity to expand the lore of the Star Wars universe.

The show’s official synopsis confirms it will follow Ahsoka after the fall of the Galactic Empire as she investigates an emerging threat to the galaxy. During episodes of The Mandalorian, Ahsoka revealed she was searching for Grand Admiral Thrawn, a high-ranking Imperial Moff, who was missing following the Empire’s defeat and the destruction of the Second Death Star.

Grand Admiral Thrawn

The first novel in the updated Thrawn trilogy.

Who Is Grand Admiral Thrawn?

Thrawn was a popular villain in the now-non-canon Legends book series by Timothy Zahn that served as the original sequel trilogy before Disney claimed the saga.

Thrawn was eventually reworked into the new canon through an updated book series and appearances in animated shows. We last saw the blue-skinned Chiss disappearing into the unknown regions with Ezra Bridger at the end of Star Wars Rebels – expect this storyline to be picked up and eventually concluded, perhaps paving the way for an eventual new film trilogy in future.

Star Wars Ahsoka

Hera makes her live-action debut.

Talking of Star Wars Rebels, fans of this well-received show have plenty to get excited about concerning Star Wars Ahsoka, as previously-animated characters from the series – such as Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren – will also be appearing in the new live-action series.

The new show certainly has fans theorising – the question of whether Ahsoka is a Skywalker is currently trending on Google. We think that might be taking things too far, but stranger things have been dreamed of in the Star Wars universe! Talking of Skywalkers, we're keeping our fingers crossed that Luke may show up again in the new show to train Ahsoka or accompany her on some missions.

Make sure you clear your calendar for a Star Wars Ahsoka binge-watching session on Disney+ on 23rd August 2023. And look out for our next blog as we take a look at all the new Star Wars Ahsoka LEGO sets on the way…
