TEA AND TECHNIC

We have the answer; luckily, there are three LEGO cafes in the UK, so put the kettle on and settle down for a read.

Brick Corner Café
Address: 2 South Avenue, Buxton, SK17 6JZ
Phone Number: 01298 938288
Website: brickcornercafe.co.uk
This beautiful open-plan café has been described as “like sitting in someone’s front room,” so it’s already off to a fantastic start. This description makes it sound extremely calm and welcoming.
Regarding the café aspect, Brick Corner offers a simple but delicious menu of locally sourced products at prices affordable for all wallets. There are cakes, waffles, and a selection of hot and cold beverages. They do have vegan options available and try to cater to allergy sufferers, too. If you have any questions about ingredients, just have a little chat with them.
In the centre of the café is a LEGO table with a massive selection of loose bricks and pieces. Let your imagination go crazy. This is suitable for adults and children alike. Brick Corner has a fantastic range of Duplo and LEGO sets if you prefer to follow instructions and build a set. The sets available have varying difficulty levels and different themes, so there is bound to be something for everyone. You should book a table in advance, especially during busy periods like weekends and school holidays (especially if the weather is terrible!).
Brick Café works with notjustbricks.co.uk, which runs workshops and activities suitable for people of all ages and abilities, families, and AFOLs. Most activities are also suitable for anybody with SEND or can be tailored to make them more accessible for them. The activities provided focus on encouraging skills in the STEM areas and are available during term time and school holidays.
Builder’s Brew Café
Address: 2-3 East Parade, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield, S1 2ET
Phone Number: 0114 3124335
Email Address: build@buildersbrewcafe.com
Builder’s Brew has hundreds of LEGO sets available for you to build and many thousands of loose bricks for you to play with. Book a table online, peruse the sets, pick which one you would like to build, and then turn up to drink tea, eat cake, and build!
Builder's Brew suggests that if you book a table for two hours, it’s best not to opt for a set with over 500 pieces as they average that most people can build 250 pieces in an hour. If you run out of time, it may be possible to stay and finish, provided that the table doesn’t have another booking. If it does, however, Builder’s Brew will try to allocate you space elsewhere, and then you pay for the additional time.
One table seats two people (the tables have edges around them to stop those naughty rogue pieces from jumping off), and one set is allocated per table so they do not get mixed up. A booking of four people would equal two tables and, therefore, two LEGO sets. Builder’s Brew charges £3 per person per hour, and they recommend booking a table before visiting.
Builder’s Brew offers a superb range of sandwiches, pastries, snacks, hot and cold beverages, and cakes daily. There are also vegetarian and vegan options.
A function room is available for birthday parties. Just drop them an email at party@buildersbrewcafe.com.
Playwell Corner Café
Address: 44 Chapelgate, Retford, DN22 6PJ
Phone Number: 07779153666
Email Address: playwellcorner@gmail.com
Playwell Corner has a fantastic array of LEGO sets available to build. They charge £5 per hour per person. A small deposit is required to book a table, which is recommended, especially during busy periods.
Playwell Corner has an After School Special running from Monday 3rd June 2024 to Wednesday 26th July 2024 - £7 buys you an hour's building, a drink and a snack.
If you have a child of five or under, Playwell Corner provides Duplo freeplay mornings Wednesday through Friday from 09:00 to 11:00. All you pay is the price of a beverage. A selection of hot and cold drinks, as well as cookies and cakes, is available.
Playwell Corner also offers three-tier birthday packages. These cater for up to 10 builders, and the prices start at £140 for a 2-hour party. A deposit of £50 is required, and they ask that you try to book at least two weeks in advance.
Have you been to any of these cafes or been to any in other countries? We would love to hear about your experiences in the comments below.
